A nonprofit sanctuary in Zolfo Springs, Florida.

Big Cat Rescue
Has the largest collection of big cats in captivity in the United States. A very informative site and a well-managed facility.

Exotic Animal Rescue
A Gainesville area rescue facility which houses lions, tigers, cougars and other exotic animals.

Shambala Preserve
This Los Angeles-area refuge was started by famed actress Tippi Hedren after she found out that the lions she worked with in the movie “Roar” were going to be killed after filming ended.

Top of the Rock Sanctuary
A Central Arkansas facility.

Horse Rescue
A resource site for horse rescue and refuge services.

Bakas Equestrian Center
Riding facility for handicapped youth.

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
An elephant rescues facility that specializes in taking in orphaned baby elephants and releasing them into a nearby protected wildlife park.  The more we learn about elephants’ intelligence, memories, social structure and language, the more I think this is another sentient species that we’ve fucked over because they’ve inconvenienced us.

Exotic Feline Rescue Center
I visited this refuge in June, 2006 and it was thrilling and saddening and kinda creepy. (There's one segment of the tour where you're walking between cages about eight feet apart. One side has Very Interested Tigers in it, walking along with you; the other has Not As Interested Lions. Very intimidating). So many of the cats' stories are dreadful. If you're in Indiana, well worth the visit and they are always glad to have visitors and donations.

Kentucky Horse Park
I visited this park in June, 2006 and it was Disney World for horse geeks. Lots of educational goodies, two wonderful museums, a trail ride, and hands-on with equines. The Hall of Champions is a must-see. The stallions there clearly believe that they are (still) Studly Hung-so-Well. I've never seen such imperious attitude in horses. Lotsa fun!
